What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Colorado Springs Neurological Associates?
Colorado Springs Neurological Associates (CSNA) began in 1959 and is the largest and most experienced Neuroscience and Spine practice in southern Colorado. We proudly deliver the highest quality medical care to our community and we are seeking Medical Assistants that share our drive for excellence.
We are a busy specialty medical practice that includes Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuropyschology, and Neuro-Optometry. Our ideal candidate is compassionate, reliable, patient, loves a challenge, and efficient at juggling tasks with focus and the proper sense of urgency.
Expectations include:
- Greet patients and escorting to exam rooms efficiently
- Assist physician with exam and procedures
- Able to navigate freely within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) - Epic
- Documentation of “chief complaint, current medications, allergies, vital signs, social history, etc.” within the EMR
- Documents communication between patients on telephone encounters for physician review with additional orders
- Documents within the telephone encounter medication refills and prior authorizations for medications
- After physician review, relays test results to patients and documents as well
- Accurately calculates dosage and prepares injectable medications and administers with physician order
- Has working knowledge of insurance companies, able to obtain authorization for tests and Botox, documents appropriately within the EMR
- Able to schedule and authorize surgeries and document appropriately within the EMR
- Proficient in nursing assessment skills and triage
- Able to assist with non-essential nursing functions: maintaining STAT kit, ordering of supplies, maintaining and use of autoclave/spore count, maintain drug cabinet, monthly check for expired drugs and maintain oxygen tank
- Enthusiasm in learning opportunities
- Able to anticipate needs and brings forth suggestions
- Special projects as assigned
Requirements:
Graduate/Certificate from Medical Assistant Program or Nursing program
Minimum of one year on the job experience as Medical Assistant
Working knowledge of nursing model and patient care
Data entry skills and computer knowledge is necessary
Experience with medical insurance and CPT/ICD coding is desirable
Certificate/License:
RMA/CMA
Up to date Certification/Registration/License to practice
Current CPR/BLS Certificate
