Colorado Springs Neurological Associates (CSNA) is an experienced group of multi-disciplinary providers working in concert to provide superior evaluation, interpretation, and treatment to people living throughout Southern Colorado. We proudly deliver the highest quality medical care to our community and we are seeking a Patient Access Specialist that will share our drive for excellence.

We are a busy specialty medical practice. Our ideal candidate is compassionate, reliable, patient, loves a challenge, and efficient at juggling tasks with focus and the proper sense of urgency.

General Summary of Duties: Performs receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with registering patient for CSNA services. Create a positive impression for each patient, family member, visitor or staff while performing the tasks of pre-admitting, admitting and/or registering, routing or escorting patients, family or visitors. The PAS will obtain demographic and financial information required to complete the registration/admission and record the information in the electronic record system. The PAS will verify insurance benefits; explain financial requirements to the patient or patient representative and collect the outstanding patient portion prior to or at the point of service. Will serve as a mentor to new associates and assist in new employee orientation. Primary Responsibilities Include: registration, scheduling, insurance verification, cash collections, phone management, customer service, problem solving, patient check in/check out, and workflow management.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate, verbally & in writing, with all levels of staff personnel.
  • Team-oriented and able to work collaboratively with staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, medical office environment with frequent interruptions, public contact, and occasional crisis situations.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive medical information and foster an ethical work environment.
  • Ability to understand and respond effectively and with sensitivity to special populations served by CSNA.
  • Prepares patient electronic medical charts prior to check in.
  • Responsible for greeting and registering patients in the computer.
  • Ensures referrals are valid and documented prior to appointment.
  • Collects co-payments, HDHP/HSA payments and account balances.
  • Balances cash drawer daily.
  • Answers phones and provides assistance to caller.
  • Interacts with pharmaceutical representatives, delivery people and couriers.
  • Schedules appointment times using computerized scheduling programs.
  • Communicates with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure availability of facilities and staff.
  • Communicates with patients and/or their families to provide necessary pre-procedure instructions and to confirm appointments.
  • Performs insurance verification and/or pre-authorizations as necessary. May provide medical reception for assigned areas.
  • Responsible for patient check in, chart checks, collecting co-pays, inputting accurate insurance information into the chart.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Education/Experience: Minimum requirement:

  • Minimum requirement of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • College education in a relevant course of study is strongly preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information and communicates in writing with patients, doctors, insurance companies and co-workers as necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Skill in operating a computer, copier, and facsimile machine.
  • Skill in listening to patients, doctors, insurance companies and answering questions in a pleasant and helpful manner.
  • Ability to multi-tasks.
  • Ability to speak English clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow complete oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, doctors, and outside offices.
  • Ability to problem solve and to understand cause and effect relationships.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.50 - $19.00 per hour
