Energy Contracts and Market Intelligence Analyst
Our Fuels and Purchase Power (FPP) team is hiring an Energy Contracts and Market Intelligence Analyst (CMIA) to take ownership of our Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and ensure that both Springs Utilities and our counterparties adhere to the contractual obligations of these multi-year agreements. Additionally, this role will assist Springs Utilities' staff in the negotiation of new PPAs to ensure these agreements align with our organized wholesale market's (OWMs) tariff and market protocols. As a CMIA, you will also work with our natural gas trading (NG) staff to facilitate the negotiation, execution, and administration of storage agreements, NG transport contracts, and any additional contracts needed to maintain NG operations. Furthermore, you will be responsible for assisting FPP with the negotiation, execution, and administration of commodity master agreements (NAESBs, ISDAs, etc.) which Springs Utilities' staff rely on to facilitate commodity transactions to ensure reliability of our Electric and Natural Gas services.
The ideal candidate will be a team player, both within FPP and across Springs Utilities, as well as a self-starter capable of handling dynamic and time-sensitive situations as they arise. Your expertise and professionalism will contribute directly to the mission of supplying reliable energy to our community and achieving our Sustainable Energy Plan.
What Will You be Doing?
- Managing and optimizing existing PPAs and administering additional commodity contracts utilized by FPP staff
- Assisting with negotiating and executing new PPAs and commodity contracts needed by FPP
- Assisting FPP with negotiating, executing, and administering commodity master agreements (i.e., NAESBs, ISDAs) which our staff rely on to facilitate commodity transactions to ensure reliability of our electric and natural gas utility services
- Providing insights and market intelligence related to OWM tariff and protocol impacts to our operations, as well as on regional market landscape and counterparties
- Representing our utility and engaging in OWM stakeholder working groups and task forces, as well as consolidating and disseminating information as needed
- Analyzing local, state, and federal legislation and providing guidance on operational impacts to our utility
- Acting as a liaison between FPP and other internal stakeholders regarding contracts and their impact to our utility
- Working with our Government Affairs staff as an energy markets SME to help analyze operational impacts of state and federal legislation, and providing input to craft responses to legislative efforts
Who You Are
- Demonstrated experience with PPAs is required
- Experience with organized wholesale markets/integrated markets (Southwest Power Pool) is highly valued
- Experience with commodity master agreements (WSPP, NAESBs, EEIs, ISDAs) is valued
- Knowledge of electric and gas utility operations (power production, power and NG delivery, related fuel and power market operations) is valued
- Bachelor's Degree in a business or engineering-related field; a MBA, JD, or Master's Degree is valued
