General Manager of Operations
Colorado Springs Utilities Operations Division is hiring a strategic and dynamic leader to provide expert judgment and agility as our newest General Manager in Operations. This General Manager will lead a large multi-skilled workgroup consisting of professional and skilled positions covering all four services. All GMs in the operations division are expected to participate in leadership rotations; embracing the opportunity to add depth and breadth as a leader for the sustained benefit of our utility. As an operational leader, you will have experience providing innovative solutions and successfully navigating change. These skills will be critical as you help the Operations Division to continue to adapt and improve the functional work model to strategically align work functions, and empower our employees to better deliver services to our community through improved decision-making, cross-departmental working and collaboration, resilience, controls, cost savings, and development opportunities.
How you'll make an impact as a General Manager...
- Oversee the development of strategies aligned with overall organization objectives on a medium to long-range horizon and provide leadership and direction through a team of senior leadership personnel
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures that invest in shared capabilities and standardized processes that enable better integrated, and concentrated support functions, in alignment with our Strategic Plan
- Responsible for the overall business performance of the department including staffing, budgeting, and managing day-to-day operations
- Demonstrate relational skills and influence across the organization to break down silos, generate cross-departmental collaboration, and better inform decision making
- Developing and implementing strategic business goals, plans, programs, department budgets, and initiatives
- Negotiating and executing contracts with contractors and suppliers
- Participating in the development of Colorado Springs Utilities' strategies, business plans, and policies
What does the success profile look like for this General Manager role?
Most people who are successful in this role offer at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Project Management, Business Management, Construction, or a related field (highly preferred).
