OSP Fiber | Telecommunications Intermediate

The Network Transport Services Portfolio group supports the safety, reliability, and performance of Colorado Springs Utilities’ fiber, microwave, and telecommunications infrastructure. Please take the next step in your career and join our talented team of telecommunications experts and professionals as a OSP Fiber | Telecommunications Intermediate (Level 1)

In this job, you should be capable of entry-level to moderate engineering and analytical activities associated with network design, engineering, and implementation. You will import field data into our GIS/CAD based design software for outside plant (OSP) telecommunications projects, i.e., FTTx, Joint Trench, Water Treatment Facilities, Electric substations, relocation of infrastructure, assist with service affecting outages requiring engineering input, and additional Utility Facilities. Knowledge of Traffic Control and permitting processes is a plus!

Key Areas of Focus:

    Researches and assists in the development of outside fiber plants
    Apply fundamental drawing elements within the preferred GIS platform
    Oversee the print production of plan sets
    Address errors promptly and effectively in CAD Drawings
    Consult GIS Standards/How-To and provide suggestions for improvement
    Conduct thorough self-checks of work, incorporating minor red line markups from the PM/CSM
    Receiving and reviewing designs from vendors
    Experience with performing quality control for the design team to ensure the designs being received are accurate and done properly
    Read and interpret circuit diagrams and electrical schematics
    Efficiently manage time to meet project budgets and schedules
    Perform other duties as assigned
    Must be able to present reports and analysis to management

Who you are... the ideal candidate will come with an Associate degree (A. A.) or two-year degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or experience in a related field and possess asic knowledge of telecom (engineering, construction, and quality control standards), conceptual understanding of OSP network for fiber builds, and basic skills in MS Office Suite; GIS Platforms and CAD software. Additionally, knowledge of basic design calculations for FTTx design/construction specifications and basic knowledge of traffic control and permitting process are both a plus for this role.

    It is a requirement that you would acquire CFOT certification within a year of employment
    A valid, unrestricted driver's license is required for this position
