Professional Land Surveyor
This job is eligible for relocation assistance to Colorado Springs.
Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a Professional Land Surveyor to provide advanced expertise and support for land surveying, cadastral mapping, survey control, easement preparation and review, topographic mapping, hydrographic mapping, UAS operations, dam deformation monitoring, and subdivision plat review. Colorado Springs Utilities works as a field-to-finish operation, giving our staff opportunities to work on all aspects of projects from beginning to end. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to plan, organize, and execute surveys with our experienced team of surveying professionals, utilizing the latest in surveying technology.
Professional Land Surveyors at Colorado Springs Utilities may be asked to perform any of the following:
- Provide project management expertise for GIS and land survey-related projects
- Review developer initiated easements and coordinate the recording and distribution of copies
- Provide support in the maintenance of Colorado Springs Utilities' survey control network, cadastre, and associated data sets
- Administer Parcel Fabric in ArcGIS Pro and the UAS survey and inspection program
- Collect and process LiDAR data using terrestrial, mobile mapper, UAS, and SLAM equipment
- Research and evaluate developing surveying technologies, and leading the implementation of newly-acquired technology and assets
- Reviewing the work of and mentoring more junior staff to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations
- Additional surveying work and surveying project support as needed
Who You Are
- Progressive land surveying experience
- Possession of a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) License in the State of Colorado, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
- Experience with land surveying, UAS operations, and GIS technologies (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble survey equipment, Trimble Business Center, Trimble Realworks)
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license - this job requires operating Colorado Springs Utilities vehicles to perform essential job functions
- Possession of any of the following certifications are valued - Certified Federal Surveyor, ASPRS Certified Mapping Scientist or Photogrammetrist, Geographic Information System Professional
Physical Job Demands and Environmental Conditions
This job is a combination of office and fieldwork where you may be subject to changing weather conditions. This job will at times require performing labor-intensive tasks, including construction staking and transporting survey equipment in mountainous terrain environments.
