Utility Worker I - Gas Construction Keyhole Crew

This is a temporary at-will position. If hired, your employment with Colorado Springs Utilities is expected to not exceed twenty-four (24) months.

Colorado Springs Utilities is looking to hire a Utility Worker I for the Gas Construction Keyhole Crew.   In this job, you will carry out routine maintenance supporting construction, repair, and maintenance projects. This requires the ability to perform manual labor, which includes heavy lifting, shoveling, and working in various types of weather, and performing basic duties while utilizing general construction operations knowledge.  

Key Areas of Focus for this role:

  • Assisting in the construction, repair, maintenance and inspection of utility piping, cable, conduit systems, and appurtenances, utility Right of Ways and Facilities
  • Using hand-operated and electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic power tools to assist with landscape construction and maintenance projects
  • Operate Colorado Springs Utilities vehicles; small tractors, trucks and trailers to assist with construction, maintenance and/or landscape projects
  • May assist with planting trees and shrubs
  • May perform corrosion surveys and installs anodes
  • Gather equipment and parts to complete daily tasksLeverage knowledge of and adhering to construction site and traffic safety procedures, general construction principles, barricading, and corrosion principles
  • Employee will be working in high-traffic areas and required to adhere to appropriate safety practices and understanding of barricading and flagging principles 
  • Maintain and updating records about daily tasks 
  • Attend safety and training courses

Who You Are...

  • Relevant and progressively responsible experience in a construction environment; general construction principles, barricading, flagging, and corrosion principles
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license
  • Class A CDL with no restrictions is preferred, but not required
    • Ability to acquire within 6 months of hire is required
  • Operating equipment such as vehicles; small tractors, trucks and trailers and hand-held electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic power tools
