Description of Work Unit
Colorado State University is a large research, land-grant institution and employs over 7,000 full and part-time faculty, exempt and non-exempt professionals, and classified staff. The University’s Human Resources Department is responsible for a broad range of activities including, but not limited to : all employee benefits; payroll; compensation; HR service center; recruitment, selection and classification for State Classified employees as well as general oversight of the State Personnel System within the University; employee relations; personnel policy interpretation; employee records and personnel action processing; and the human resource management information systems ( HRIS ).

Position Summary
The Compensation Analyst is a team member of the Colorado State University Human Resources Division. This position is an integral part of the classification and compensation process for both Administrative Professional and State Classified employees. The position participates in the development, implementation, and administration of job classification and compensation programs to ensure competitive, equitable and market-based opportunities for employees in support of University goals and objectives. The Classification & Compensation unit oversees the classification of positions; determines FLSA exemption status; provides guidance to campus HR partners on development of position descriptions; and is the HR expert skilled in analyzing, evaluating, monitoring, and extrapolating results to manage the University Compensation Plan.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of compensation principles and working knowledge of market competitive pay practices to provide consultative services to hiring managers.
The Compensation Analyst must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) to a wide audience to provide guidance on processes and practices, to develop collaborative working relationships and to provide positive customer service experiences to hiring departments. The person must be able to assess priorities, maintain flexibility and balance time management when determining inquiries and requests. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, creative problem solving and prior experience successfully navigating a complex organization. Must be able to work with confidential information and ensure the accuracy of information while performing tasks and other duties as assigned.
Position is currently eligible for hybrid work schedule.
This is a temporary position for approximately 12 months.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration or a related field with 2 years of Human Resources experience.
Previous experience using salary surveys to market price roles.
Previous experience analyzing compensation data and providing recommendations based on findings.
Experience in advising and collaborating with multiple levels inside an organization to find solutions that meet organizational objectives
Preferred Job Qualifications
Experience / proficiency with Oracle or Workday. and / or position management systems.
Experience in public sector classification and compensation environment.
Certified Professional in Human Resources HRCI SPHR / PHR or SHRM SCP / CP.
Certified Compensation Professional ( CCP ) or Compensation Management Specialist ( CMS ).
Colorado Department of Public Administration Job Evaluation Certification.

Compile compensation data and make recommendations to resolve compensation issues such as compression and internal equity.
Assist with the gathering of employee data for our HRIS conversion.
Provide Talent Acquisition with recommendations on salary offers when requested.
Assists with analysis and data reviews during equity and promotion review processes.
Review and provide guidance on off-cycle pay changes and retention adjustment requests.

Conduct classification, job evaluation and compensation review for new and revised Administrative Professional positions to assess elements of qualification and responsibility including supervision, decision making, complexity, interaction, communication, university impact and position requirements.
Evaluate university positions for Fair Labor Standards Act ( FLSA ) exemption status.
Determine job family, category and level for Administrative Professional positions.
Gather sufficient information to support job evaluation and classification decisions and respond to classification or FLSA appeals as requested.
Participate in the administration of classification and compensation review programs.
Participate in compensation surveys through job content analysis for matching survey jobs, data collection, and survey submission
