Description of Work Unit

The Ethnic Studies Department critically examines the interlocking forces of domination that are rooted in socially constructed categories of gender, sexuality, class, and race. Our faculty and researchers are committed to theoretical, empirical, qualitative, textual, and community-based research, pedagogy, service, and outreach. Utilizing interdisciplinary, trans international, and comparative approaches, we challenge paradigms that systematically marginalize the experiences of diverse populations. In doing so, we bring to bear issues of power, privilege, and social justice pertinent to aggrieved groups in the United States and abroad. We are especially committed to nurturing civic-minded and culturally informed students who strive to strengthen the communities in which they reside. In support of the land-grant mission of Colorado State University, the Department engages with communities on and off campus in order to effect meaningful change in public policy and social life.

Position Summary

The Department of Ethnic Studies hires temporary, part-time instructors from an applicant pool for fall, spring, and / or summer terms to teach courses in the areas of Ethnic Studies and Women's and Gender Studies. We have special needs in teaching ETST100 Introduction to Ethnic Studies, ETST205 Ethnicity and the Media, Chicanx, Native American, Asian American, African American, and Comparative Ethnic Studies courses. Please review the course catalog at : http : / / catalog.colostate.edu / for our course offerings in that area. We also have needs for online instructors for Women's and Gender Studies for WS 200, WS 269, WS 270, WS 340 & WS 375.

The Center for Women's Studies and Gender Research (CWSGR) is an interdisciplinary apex of research, academic, teaching, and outreach program housed within the Department of Ethnic Studies. The program examines the positions of women and the organization of gendered relations in culture and society from both intellectual and activist perspectives. Central to our consideration of women and gender is a commitment to investigating the intersections of class, race, ethnicity, sexual identities, queer identities, gender non-conforming identities, age, ability, citizenship, empire, nation, and national origin along the social structures and power continuums of power, privilege, and difference. Guided by the wide spectrum of feminist and other critical or gendered perspectives, our program aims to heighten awareness and understanding of the range of human experience, potential, and accomplishment in order to advance the goals of social justice. In the course of meeting these objectives, we seek to nurture and disseminate knowledge about women and gender that is 1) historically-informed, 2) grounded at every level of life experience, including interpersonal, household, workplace, and state arenas, 3) focused on marginalized and privileged populations, and 4) dedicated to social change.
