Production Painter
1st Shift 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM / 2nd Shift 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM
Wage Rate/ $19.00 – $22.00

Summary:
The Painter is responsible for applying coatings at a standard rate of 15-20 windows per hour using an HVLP spray gun in a controlled paint booth environment while ensuring all products meet ColorCoat’s Finished Goods Quality standards and customer-specific requirements. Before being trained in painting, the individual must first understand and train on the production process to ensure a full grasp of workflow and product handling. This role requires precision, adherence to safety standards, quality expectations, and proper equipment maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential to the role. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Training & Production Process Understanding:
- Complete training in the production process before painting, gaining hands-on experience with workflow, materials, and handling procedures.
- Work alongside production teams to understand substrates, materials, and preparation processes before transitioning to painting.
- Learn quality control standards and customer-specific paint specifications.
- Gain an understanding of HPU (hours per unit) production targets to maintain efficiency.
Painting & Coating Responsibilities:
- Apply paint coatings at a standard rate of 15-20 windows per hour, using an HVLP spray guns while maintaining consistent application techniques to ensure even coverage and durability.
- Follow established prepping and painting processes using various coatings and materials.
- Ensure units are properly masked, cleaned, and ready for painting according to specifications.
- Verify the correct paint color for each customer order, ensuring consistency across production runs.
- Prepare paint mixtures according to supplier specifications and process control sheets, ensuring proper ratios and consistency.
- Perform sample testing for every new batch and label samples for quality verification.
- Recognize and correct defects such as overspray, dust particles, improper adhesion, runs, and orange peel effects before finalizing a painted unit.
- Communicate issues immediately (paint gun malfunctions, air supply issues, paint defects) to the manager for resolution.
- Work with the line lead to ensure products are painted and ready when needed in the production schedule.
Equipment & Workstation Maintenance:
- Understand proper paint gun maintenance such as assemble, disassemble, and clean paint guns to maintain effective performance and prevent contamination.
- Maintain a clean and organized paint booth, ensuring all tools, mixing equipment, and workspace are in order.
- Replace filters in the paint booth and oven as needed and conduct daily workstation clean-ups.
- Fill solvent containers as required for cleaning and paint thinning processes.
- Notify management when paint supplies or equipment parts need to be reordered to prevent downtime.
Safety & PPE Compliance:
- Always wear the required PPE and follow ColorCoat, Inc.’s Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Policy:
- Safety glasses and earplugs must be always worn on the floor and in the paint booth.
- Paint guns must be cleaned daily to maintain proper function.
- Respirator maintenance (washing and inspection) must be performed at the end of each shift.
- Coveralls and head socks must be always worn in the paint booth (sleeves must not be cut).
- Respirator filters must be changed as required, with changes recorded in a log.
- No facial hair is permitted per safety regulations for proper respirator seal.
- Follow all OSHA safety regulations, including proper ventilation and handling of hazardous materials.
- Replace brown bags on sprinkler heads as required.
- Ensure paint mixing, application, and disposal comply with environmental and safety regulations.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Work cooperatively with production teams to maintain workflow efficiency.
- Identify areas for process improvement and suggest solutions to optimize paint application and material usage.
- Follow manager directions and maintain a productive pace to meet HPU targets.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience using spray guns, preferably in a manufacturing or automotive coatings environment.
- Experience with HVLP spray painting required.
- Ability to train in production processes before transitioning to painting.
- Familiarity with painting preparation, application techniques, and curing processes.
- Ability to identify and correct paint defects before final product approval.
- Knowledge of substrates and materials used in production.
- Basic mechanical skills for equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Strong attention to detail and color-matching ability.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions in English.
- Good communication skills to report quality issues effectively.
- Must pass physical evaluation and respiratory test to qualify for painting duties.

- Fast-paced manufacturing setting with exposure to moving equipment, noise, and ventilation systems.
- Regular exposure to paints, solvents, and chemicals, requiring strict PPE usage.
- Work primarily conducted inside a spray booth and oven drying area.
- Periodic high-heat environments during curing processes.
- Mask fit testing and safety training provided for compliance with company and OSHA safety standards.
