CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN II Job Summary Under the direction of the CIP Construction Foreman, the Construction Tech II carries out a variety of construction projects as assigned. Examples of projects include but are not limited to the construction of community playgrounds, concrete flatwork, vehicular bridges, boardwalks, piers, floating docks, etc. Projects also include the repair, modification, and/or complete renovation of the aforementioned. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1. Ensure that all tasks are carried out in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with recognized industry standards. 2. Must be able to work overtime hours in line with project demands and report to work punctually. 3. Must be able to understand, follow and relay written and oral instructions accurately and efficiently. 4. Must possess a sound working knowledge of industry safety standards as they apply to carpentry and general construction and adhere to these practices on the job site. 5. Must possess mathematical facility and knowledge of carpentry principles, practices and procedures commensurate with 3 years of experience in the carpentry trade. This includes the ability to apply the principles of plumb/level/square; the ability to make foot/inch measurements and calculations. 6. Must be able to operate a wide variety of hand and power tools safely and properly. Examples of power tools are chainsaws, concrete saws, circular saws, drills, sanders, routers, grinders, planers, nail guns, jackhammers, etc. 7. Must be able to operate motorized skid steer, mini-excavator, and rubber tire construction equipment at a level that ensures the safe and efficient loading, unloading, and transport of construction materials to and from the job site. Additional Duties & Responsibilities 1. Assists the Foreman with the maintenance, proper operation, and organization of all tools, equipment, storage areas, vehicles, work areas, and materials assigned to the carpentry crew. 2. Ensure that all assigned work is carried out according to the Carpentry Foreman’s directions and specifications. 3. Performs the removal and construction of vehicular bridges. This includes performing all related stream erosion tasks, off-site prefabrication, and on-site construction. 4. Performs the construction of community playgrounds according to standards set forth by the Columbia Association. This includes related concrete, masonry, and landscaping work as assigned. 5. Performs the fabrication, installation, and repair of a variety of signs (village ID, Neighborhood ID, etc.), benches, trashcans, retaining walls, and other park features as assigned. 6. Performs the installation of basketball goals, volleyball nets, softball backstops, and related recreational equipment. 7. Performs the removal and installation of concrete flatwork and other masonry projects. 8. Carries out basic heavy equipment duties such as loading materials on trucks (i.e. stone, sand, soil, etc.) with a skid steer, mini-excavator, and rubber tire equipment and transporting construction materials from site to site. 9. Performs all forms of manual labor as assigned (shoveling, raking, prying, digging, lifting, carrying, sweeping, painting, etc.). 10. Develops and sustains cooperative working relationships with co-workers. 11. Assumes other duties as assigned. 12. Compliance with all company policies, including conformity with policies relating to absence and punctuality. 13. Inspects vehicles and fill out appropriate vehicle inspection reports accurately. Requirements Driving Privilege: 1. Ability to comply with Columbia Association’s driving requirements. Experience: 1. Not less than 3 years of experience in the construction trade.   Education: 1. Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a high school diploma. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. Thorough knowledge of construction principles, practices, and procedures commensurate with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction trade. This includes but is not limited to the ability to accurately plumb, level, square, measure, cut, drill, screw, nail, plane, sand, and otherwise modify a wide variety of building materials to specification. 2. The ability to understand and communicate technical and general information accurately through verbal means and/or written instruction. License, Certificates, etc.: 1. Must possess a valid Class C driver’s license issued by the resident state. 2. Ability to obtain and maintain DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification.   Physical Demands of Job 1. Ability to perform construction-related activities for prolonged periods in adverse weather conditions (extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, humidity, etc.). 2. Must be able to work at different heights (roofs, scaffolds, ladders, genie lifts, etc.). 3. Ability to stand for the entire shift. 4. Ability to lift 80 pounds unassisted. 5. Ability to bend, stoop, reach and climb without difficulty. The pay range for this position is $22.00 to $27.00 actual pay rate offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and the amount budgeted for the role.
