Youth and Teen Programs General Manager
Columbia Association Youth Services Programs strive to provide affordable and enriching opportunities for school-age youth during their non-school hours in order to meet the school-age childcare needs of the community. We operate before and after school childcare in 20 elementary schools in Howard County, summer camps and a Youth and Teen Center (YTC).
Our programs are designed in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) the National After-School Association (NAA)and American Camping Association. Participants are offered a variety of activities that may include art, science, music, dramatic play and various physical activities and games. Developmental levels of children are taken into account while planning these activities, with developmentally appropriate practices utilized as needed. Our programs are structured in a manner that facilitates opportunities for individual and group participation, striking a balance between self-selected and staff directed activities with both quiet and active periods.
Position Description
The Youth Programs Manager is responsible for:
Implementing the philosophy, policies, procedures, and operations, exercising responsible professional judgment and technical skill
The development and implementation of quality standards, evaluation, revision of forms and policies and all other activities, which add to the overall quality of the program.
Working closely with the Maryland Department of Education to ensure licensing compliance of all School Age Services (SAS) sites as well as working with the school principals to ensure a seamless transition for participants.
Working closely with Maryland Department of Health (MDH)to ensure licensing compliance of all summer camps
Staff supervision including direct supervision of the SAS and YTC managers and Camp Coordinator in their development, coordination and oversight of the SAS< Camps and YTC programs as well as the development of pre-service and in-service training, and staff meetings.
Budgetary responsibilities include creating, planning, monitoring and managing division's operating budget of approx.$2.5million.
This is a challenging position, involving considerable responsibility, complexity and variety. This includes responding to parent concerns and reports of accidents, taking appropriate responsive action where necessary.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in education, recreation, child psychology, child development, education or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Must be or be able to attain MSDE School Age Director qualification.
Minimum of five years multi- site experience in supervisory or administrative capacity in the area of community recreation or childcare.
Professional skill in planning, organizing, and supervising a wide variety of childcare programs.
Thorough knowledge of MSDE regulation, NAEYC and NAA standards, MDH Youth Camp regulations and the Americans with Disability Act.
Experience managing operating budgets of at least $1,000,000
The salary range for this position is $81,432 to $122,096. The actual salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and the budgeted amount for the role.
