We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as our Infection Control/MDS Coordinator, ensuring resident safety through effective infection prevention while overseeing care coordination and assessments.
Job Summary
The Infection Control/MDS Coordinator is responsible for managing the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) to maintain a safe and sanitary environment. Additionally, this role collaborates with the IDT to oversee resident care and ensure compliance with MDS (Minimum Data Set) assessments. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to support both staff and residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement, monitor, and update the Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP).
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and CDC infection control regulations.
- Train staff on infection prevention protocols and provide ongoing education.
- Monitor and track infections, identify trends, and implement preventive measures.
- Conduct resident assessments and oversee MDS documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Track, report and evaluate residents for Medicaid Complex Criteria.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to optimize resident care and ensure accurate reporting.
- Manage the MDS schedule and ensure MDS’s are completed timely and submitted successfully
- Manage Certs and Recerts and ensure compliance with CMS requirements
- Assist with Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training programs as needed.
- Serve as a resource for nurses and caregivers, offering mentorship and support.
- Work closely with the Director of Nursing (DNS) to implement quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Current RN license in good standing with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Training or experience in medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, and infection control is preferred.
- Infection Preventionist Certificate (or willingness to obtain through the CDC).
- Experience in geriatric nursing, resident care management (RCM), or MDS coordination is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, and community healthcare providers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, and perform clinical tasks for extended periods.
- Must be able to bend, kneel, and push/pull (e.g., assisting residents in wheelchairs).
- Exposure to blood/body fluids as part of standard nursing precautions.
