Here's how you will support our mission

The School of Career and Technical Education seeks a passionate and highly qualified individual to teach various nuclear technology courses. This program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for employment across various nuclear industry sectors. The selected individual will teach foundational nuclear technology courses and, depending on their education and experience will teach radiation protection, non-licensed operator, or instrumentation and control coursework. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering both theoretical instruction and hands-on lab courses and collaborating with fellow faculty to develop course content and curriculum.

This position reports to the Dean for Business & Computer Science.

The salary range for this position is $77,693-$81,624 for a 176-day contract over the Instructional Year (Fall / Winter / Spring Quarters). Additional compensation may be available for assignment of summer quarter courses or courses taught outside of the full-time position during fall, winter and spring quarters. This position is in a hard to fill discipline eligible for additional money per MOU 002 - Hard to Fill Supplemental Pay and would receive an additional stipend of $5,950 . This is not a guarantee of compensation and is subject to funding.

Relocation expenses are part of the employment offer for the successful candidate if the candidate relocates to the Tri-Cities area from outside of a 175-mile radius.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in nuclear technology or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • Five (5) years of experience in a radiation protection profession, nuclear power plant maintenance or operations, or instrumentation and control; and

    Demonstrated experience or commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in professional or educational settings, particularly in relation to Hispanic and underserved communities. This includes personal and professional efforts to address challenges faced by these populations and advocate for their success.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions and responsibilities for this position.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nuclear technology, health physics, engineering, or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • College level teaching experience or experience facilitating and / or developing nuclear industry training;
  • Specialized certification in radiation safety / health physics, such as Radiological Control Technician Qualification (RCT), National Registry of Radiological Protection Technologists (NRRPT), and Certified Health Physicist (CHP); and

    Bilingual in English and in Spanish.

    This is a bargaining unit position represented by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Compensation and benefits are subject to the collective bargaining process. There will be paid comprehensive onboarding and training beginning August 1, 2025, but the contract for this position begins on September 1, 2025. This is a tenure track position and will begin the three-year tenure process in fall quarter 2025. More information about the tenure process can be found in Chapter 28B.50 RCW governing Washington State Community and Technical Colleges.

    CBC is looking to fill 2 positions for Assistant Professor of Nuclear Technology, one of these positions will have the director position attached to it. A list of the additional duties can be found on our website. The Director position will receive release time in accordance with the CBA.

    Successful candidates must meet the following requirements :

  • Provide proof of lawful permanent residency or other appropriate work authorization as required by the Immigration Reform Control Act of 1986.
  • Disclose any substantiated findings or any ongoing investigations related to sexual misconduct as required by RCW 28B.112.080.

    Pass a criminal background check. Note : information learned during the criminal background check will not necessarily preclude employment but may be a factor in eligibility for the position.
