SUPERVISORY CONTROL: Education Manager
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
Regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
37.5 hours per week for 42 weeks per year.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Assist in meeting the requirements and responsibilities of the education and disabilities components under the direction of the Mental Health Manager, Education Manager, and Education/Disabilities Manager. In accordance with the philosophy of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff in the agency and demonstrate a positive attitude towards all clients and other persons with whom you come in contact during the course of your job. Travel is not typically expected but may arise as job duties demand.
SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Understand and work to achieve the goals, philosophy, and objectives of the Head Start program.
- Provide supervision for center based Assistant Teachers.
- Assist in training substitutes and arranging classroom coverage.
- Coordinate development of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each child with disabilities. The plan will be revised and updated on a yearly basis.
- Track and enter developmental screening information and IEP’s into ChildPlus and Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Prepare referral information to send to the Intermediate Unit for children needing further screening or evaluation.
- Track and enter information regarding IU screening and evaluation results and entry IEPs.
- Meet with parents of children with disabilities along with the Teacher or Home Visitor to assist in developing or review IEP’s of designated children. Be available to discuss IEP upon parent request.
- Assist in achieving NAEYC and Keystone STAR accreditation.
- Complete formal observations in classrooms using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), Early Childhood Environmental Rating System (ECERS), and other tools as needed.
- Collaborate with Intermediate Unit staff regarding referrals, children’s services and paperwork.
- Monitor and maintain disabilities files.
- Assist in the collection and aggregation of educational data and outcomes.
- Track and compile information for annual Program Information Report.
- Coordinate with Managers to attend Transition Information Exchange (TIE) meetings in the spring, to share information regarding Head Start children who will be attending Kindergarten the following fall.
- Complete other duties as deemed necessary by the management team for the efficient operation of the education and disabilities service areas.
- Be responsible for the assigned computer hardware and software. Perform regular maintenance functions and other duties as outlined in the agency’s written procedure on computer systems.
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. At least two years of experience in the early childhood field.
