Job Summary:
The TRiO SSS Tutor position includes tutoring for various courses based on SSS participant requests and can become available throughout the semester. SSS participants have the option to receive free tutoring services through the federal funded grant.
Essential Functions:
- Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the TRiO SSS program.
- Read and adhere to the Tutor Training Manual.
- Arrange tutoring sessions with the designated student.
- Meet on campus for all tutoring sessions
- Communicate in a timely manner with the Tutor Coordinator regarding concerns, progress and feedback.
- Communicate material effectively with the student being tutored.
- Practice superior customer service.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Display respect and civility to all constituencies regardless of method of communication.
- Attend work timely and during the established hours of operation on a regular basis; work additional hours as business necessitates.
Supervision Received:
TRiO SSS Advisor – Tutor Coordinator
Skills:
- Ability to fluently read, write and understand the English language.
- Proficiency with the following, but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
- Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
- Proficiency for using web-based technologies, including database systems.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment, with or without direct supervision.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills with all constituents.
Experience:
Positive academic performance in the area of study being requested.
Preferred Education/Experience:
TRiO SSS Participant, Columbia College Student or Alumni, Professional Tutor
