POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for coordinating compliance with storm water environmental permits, predominately the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for construction sites and County land disturbance permit.
Work is performed primarily in the office. Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping and climbing. Work requires lifting both light (less than 25 pounds) and heavy (more than 25 pounds) objects. Contacts are typically with contractors, engineers, developers, utility companies, and co-workers.
This position does not have any direct supervision of other employees.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Checks and coordinates compliance with federal, state, and county regulations, codes, and specifications.
- Support all aspects of E&S environmental inspection, violation, and fee processes. Maintains environmental permitting databases.
- Maintains electronic environmental permitting inventory.
- Assists with Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System compliance and reporting.
- Serves as the Department’s system administrator for the permitting and inspection program.
- Maintains effective working relationships with other departments, utility companies, developers, engineers and the general public.
- Assists the Stormwater Compliance Manager and Stormwater Compliance Department as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to understand and apply knowledge of Federal, State and County codes, laws, regulations, and ordinances relating to land disturbance.
- Ability to understand and apply the Best Management Practices set forth in the Manual for Erosion and Sediment Control in Georgia.
- Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with elected officials, co-workers, EPD, EPA, contractors, engineers, developers, utility companies, and property owners.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Performs various administrative duties such as overall customer service and answering phones.
- The employee must require minimal supervision and be completely diligent to plan work load and tasks to fit all scheduling as required.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to understand and apply regulation relating to development and environmental compliance is required. An associate degree, or higher, in an applicable field is preferred. An Inspector IB certification through the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation programs is required within 6 months from date of hire. A valid driver’s license is required. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
Salary : $720 - $4,550
