POSITION SUMMARY
The incumbent must be motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated to the quality of care and service of County recreation facilities and parks, insuring the areas are safe, attractive and functioning properly. The individual will primarily work independent must also be ready to work with groups as a part of the team, taking pride in the work performance and serving as a good steward of the public assets.
Work is typically performed standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders and lifting light objects weighing less than twenty five (25) pounds and heavy objects weighing more than twenty five (25) pounds. The employee must perform general tasks preparing athletic fields, a variety of minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, concrete work and fence repair and installation. The employee must possess manual dexterity to operate equipment such as tractors, mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws and other power tools. The work consists of repetitive parks services tasks performed on standard procedures.
Work is performed outdoors and indoors, with the worker exposed to dust, grass, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and hot, cold and inclement weather. Seasonal changes in nature and inclement weather during the athletic programs add complexity to the position. The employee must sometimes use protective devices, such as gloves, masks and back braces.
Work is assigned on a daily basis from a Park Services Crew Leader. Recreation parks and facilities are to be maintained at an acceptable level of safety, attractiveness and department standards.
High school diploma or GED equivalency is required. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Performs services to insure the County parks and recreational facilities are maintained at an acceptable level of safety and playable condition for the citizens and park users.
- Works independently in the care and oversight of parks, ball fields, rental equipment, scoreboards, fencing, playgrounds and other associated facilities.
- Prepares fields prior to scheduled events.
- Provides custodial care of bathrooms and other areas daily as well as during athletic or other special events.
- Performs manual labor moving supplies, equipment, trash, lawn tractors, and other miscellaneous duties.
- Works evenings and weekends assisting with scheduled recreation and parks events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of various power tools, and experience with carpentry, electrical, plumbing and landscaping.
- Knowledge of the physical layout of recreation and athletic facilities and their maintenance
- Skill following oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as a team player.
- Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalency is required. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license required. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
