POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting in process control sample data collection of wastewater through different areas of the treatment process. Collection of samples is required 365 days a year, which means the incumbent will have to be able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays, some nights and be on call.
The work is performed both indoors and outdoors where the incumbent is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, machinery, and its moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals and hot, cold/inclement weather. The work requires the use of personal protective equipment such as masks, goggles and gloves. The job requires the incumbent to follow clear and specific guidelines for wastewater treatment. The duties are assigned verbally and written form daily.
The nature of the work is routine, but occasionally emergencies will occur in the system that may create some difficulties.
The Supervisor V assigns work in terms of specific instructions and spot-checks completed work, reviewing most or all of the work as it is performed for compliance and accuracy and volume.
The work of the position requires that the incumbent follow state and federal guidelines for Waste Water Treatment. The incumbent adheres to County and Department policies and procedures.
This position requires sitting at a desk, intermittent standing, and stooping, and occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds, climbing of ladders and distinguishing between shades of color.
Contacts are typically with County personnel, state and Federal environmental personnel, and vendors.
Ability to obtain Class III Waste Water License within 12 months of finishing the required schooling.
Possession of a high school diploma or GED is required. A valid drivers’ license is required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist in the Collection of daily wastewater samples for process control and Regulatory reporting.
- Assist in recording plant data information into the computer
- Assist in performing some preventative maintenance on the treatment system equipment.
- Cleaning of all buildings, grounds, vehicles and process equipment assigned to the employee within the treatment plant
- Assist in Checking all process equipment daily to verify that it is operating properly
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Understanding of basic chemistry.
- Skills in Math.
- Skill in communications.
- Skill in the use of basic tools
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of a high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Ability to obtain Class III Waste Water License within 12 months of finishing the required schooling.
A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
