Job Summary
The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, goods, and services to support company operations. This role involves supplier management, procurement of job-specific and general materials, cost analysis, and working capital management to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers while maintaining strong relationships with existing ones.
- Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and contracts to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
- Monitor supplier performance and address any issues or discrepancies in quality, delivery, or service.
- Issue purchase orders based on material requisitions provided by Job Engineers for specific sales orders (e.g., non-stock paint, non-stock braille, special metals).
- Ensure timely arrival of job-specific materials before required production stages to prevent delays.
- Communicate any delays or changes in estimated delivery dates to the Production Planner for schedule adjustments.
- Source and purchase materials, goods, and services while ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure timely procurement of mission-critical supplies, including machine repairs, tooling, and safety equipment.
- Maintain stock levels for consumable items to prevent shortages.
- Conduct market research and cost analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare cost expenditure tracking reports and monitor purchasing department key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyze price trends and recommend strategies to reduce procurement costs.
- Optimize payment terms with suppliers to extend payment periods while maintaining positive vendor relationships.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices and payments to avoid late fees or supply disruptions.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- 2-5 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Experience with supplier negotiations and contract management.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze costs and market trends to optimize purchasing decisions.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems is preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
