Senior Structural Engineer
Location: Richland, WA
Columbia Energy & Environmental Services, an established small business headquartered in Richland, WA, provides full-service engineering, design, fabrication, instrumentation & controls, and technology development.
We are currently seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team. This role offers opportunities for career advancement, including serving as a design engineer on design/build/test projects, technical lead, project engineer, and project manager.
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
- Identify, evaluate, and test innovative design solutions for projects related to nuclear and hazardous waste remediation, equipment installation and support, chemical processing, and commercial development.
- Perform structural design and analysis in compliance with established codes and standards (e.g., AISC, ASCE, ACI, IBC).
- Design lifting fixtures and tooling to support fabrication.
- Conduct structural calculations to verify equipment design and installations meet specified load combinations and contract requirements.
- Provide support for multiple simultaneous projects and cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with designers to produce detailed design drawings.
- Develop test plans and procedures, supporting system testing and validation.
- Maintain configuration control of baseline drawings and documents.
- Effectively communicate task status, progress, and technical challenges, ensuring project deadlines are met.
- Conduct project reviews to ensure compliance with fundamental design requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in structural engineering.
Preferred Qualifications & Attributes:
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience with IBC, AISC, ACI standards and their application.
- Department of Energy (DOE) experience.
- Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software such as Ansys or RISA-3D.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize project needs and meet delivery schedules.
- Strong ability to plan work activities and accurately estimate task durations.
- Proven ability to produce high-quality design deliverables.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership in work.
- Willingness to embrace new challenges, expand technical skills, and contribute to project teams.
