Part Time Production Positions First and Second Shift

Successful candidates must be able to work in various jobs which can include rotating to different job duties. These job duties could include various machine operators, handling material, grading material, quality checks, clean up, and other similar manufacturing activities. This position requires you to follow written and verbal job instructions. Being able to provide feedback and apply critical thinking are other keys to this position. Employees must be able to use personal safety equipment while working in a manufacturing environment that includes moving machinery, fast paced forklift traffic, machine noise, and a work environment that will vary depending on the time of the year. Specific responsibilities of the Tape Machine Operator include:

  • Identify natural and mechanical defects contained on a 4x8 sheet of hardwood veneer.
  • Knowledgeable of grades and specifications.
  • Knowledgeable in rework clipping preferences.
  • Knowledgeable of safe and proper tape machine operation.
  • Ability to rotate thru rotation with 2 piler positions.
  • Ability to maintain quality and pace when feeding panels through tape machine.
  • Ability to use laser lights and stops to maintain proper placement of panels on infeed belts of tape machine.
  • Ability to monitor tape application for continual application.
  • Knowledge and ability of tape replacement protocol.
  • Support and follow standardized work.
  • Able to adapt to grade specification changes.
  • Able to maintain good attendance as this position.
  • Communicate with grader and other pilers on belt with various topics.
  • Determining proper safety procedures (LOTO, JSA, REACH) needed to safely and efficiently complete tasks.

Specific responsibilities of the Splicer Operator include:

  • Knowledgeable in safe operation of splicer machine.
  • Knowledgeable of veneer specifications: Species, thickness, size, quantity of pieces to be spliced with result of 50x99 panel.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy with fluctuation of sizes of veneer components.
  • Knowledgeable in the process of book matching veneer pieces.
  • Knowledgeable in the process of slip matching veneer pieces
  • Ability to sort odd pieces of veneer for highest quality panel.
  • Knowledgeable and conscientious of value.
  • Ability to monitor machine function, controls and their use.
  • Ability to communicate issues to Team Leader and Maintenance.
  • Support and follow standardized work.
  • Willingness to be cross trained in various departmental position to serve as backup as needed.
  • Able to adapt and prioritize needs throughout shift.
  • Able to maintain good attendance.

Qualifications

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Follows 5S/Continuous Improvement and quality initiatives with understanding basic production needs and initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Requires the ability to read, write and use basic arithmetic. On the job training is provided and this position requires approximately 6 to 12 months to become proficient.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Knowledgeable of veneer specifications and splicer operation. Basic knowledge of our entire process and product use is beneficial.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Ability to read, understand, and follow standard operating instructions. Ability to prioritize needs of shift. Ability to operate a splicing machine.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate with others at all levels in both oral and written methods.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read a tape measure.

Individual should effectively communicate with the coworkers and perform their job in a safe manner.

Working conditions and Personal Protective Equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. A wide array of personal protections is required: Safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, composite toed shoes, and other forms dependent upon job duties and location.

Physical requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push/pull, lift, and carry; use hands to handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
