Advocate Supervisor Job Description (Bilingual_ Spanish Preferred)_
Our Mission
To advocate for the needs and well-being of children and youth who have experienced abuse and neglect through continually-trained and professionally-supported community volunteers.
Position Summary
The Advocate Supervisor provides supervision and case management support for around 15 CASA volunteers. CASA’s advocates are trained and supported community volunteers appointed by local judges to advocate for the needs and well-being of children in foster care. The Advocate Supervisor ensures that children served by the program receive sound volunteer advocacy and early permanency planning in accordance with Oregon Statutes, federal laws, and policies of Columbia Gorge CASA. The supervisor may be expected to also work a portion of cases.
We encourage individuals who are fluent in both English and Spanish to apply. The starting wage is negotiable and will be determined based on the final candidate's qualifications, including bilingual proficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Advocate Supervision:
- Monitor, manage, and support the advocacy efforts of assigned volunteers through consultation, guidance, problem-solving, feedback, evaluation, motivation, training, and preparation for court hearings.
- Proactively engage with assigned volunteers to ensure a high level of support and provide a positive volunteer experience.
- Monitor case-related activities of volunteers to ensure compliance with program policies and procedures, including confidentiality, cultural competency, and self-management.
- Review and distribute case documents and discovery to assigned volunteers.
- Attend court hearings and other case-related meetings as needed and appropriate.
- Review volunteer court reports, facilitate revisions as necessary, and distribute final reports to legal parties involved in the case.
- Consult with the program coordinator regarding new volunteer case assignments and concerns related to current volunteer assignments or issues.
- Ensure that assigned volunteers complete 12 hours of continuing education annually.
- Conduct annual reviews for each assigned volunteer.
- Assist in the development of continuing education opportunities, as requested.
- Assist with volunteer recruitment and appreciation activities, as requested.
- Bilingual Applicants: Manage cases of children from Spanish-speaking households, ensuring culturally appropriate advocacy.
Staff Advocacy:
- Work cases as needed.
- Monitor cases as required.
Administrative:
- Document case and volunteer activity, as well as demographic information, in the program database.
- Maintain up-to-date personnel files for each assigned volunteer in accordance with program policies and National CASA standards.
- Assist with the development and recruitment of training materials, as requested.
- Bilingual Applicants: Occasionally translate materials.
Program Outreach and Improvement:
- Attend staff meetings, community partner committees, professional conferences, and other relevant meetings, as requested. Represent or present on behalf of the organization as needed.
- Complete new volunteer training and participate in 12 hours of relevant continuing education annually.
- Maintain current knowledge of resources, information, and conditions related to child abuse and neglect, as well as CASA standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
