Description

This position is responsible for teaching ESOL courses that align with CGCC course outcome guides. The instructor is also responsible for performing other instruction-related activities including course planning, assessment and evaluation. 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Advise and register students as requested.
  2. Write educational plans for individuals or groups, choosing appropriate delivery, curriculum, and materials to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  3. Plan instructional lessons with regard to student need and current instructional strategies, techniques, and curriculum.
  4. Deliver instruction to designated student.
  5. Assist with curriculum development within the program and oversee quality of instruction.
  6. Participate in staff development activities. Attend department meetings.
  7. Evaluate educational materials for classroom use.
  8. Grade student coursework and assume responsibility for assigning grades. Assess student coursework and provide feedback to student
  9. Maintain required records.
  10. Help maintain a physical environment conducive to learning.
  11. Teach a varied schedule, including day and evening hours.
  12. Teach in lab, small group, and/or classroom settings as assigned.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean.
  14. Maintain appropriate professionalism and confidentiality.
  15. Work cooperatively with all staff members, including volunteers in the lab or classroom.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND


Master’s in TESOL or equivalent educational experience.


EXPERIENCE

  1. Experience as an adult ESOL instructor. 
  2. Ability to work with adults of varied abilities and backgrounds.
  3. Available to work a varied schedule.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Thorough understanding of the curriculum in assigned instructional areas.
  2. Knowledge of instructional delivery, the elements of effective teaching and learning, and the principles of adult education.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with staff, faculty, and students.
  5. Strong commitment to student success.
  6. Strong commitment to innovation, collaboration, and quality.
  7. Willingness to work and/or travel on a flexible schedule.
  8. Ability to stay current in the field through professional development and self-study.
  9. Ability to use computer technology for communication and instructional purposes.
  10. Experience promoting equity-minded and diversely represented communications and materials, experience in responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and employees as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk or stand, talk or hear and use hands and fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
