The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Vice Dean of Finance & Administration of the Columbia University School of Nursing, the Associate Dean for Development & Alumni Relations has responsibility for all development activities, fundraising initiatives and alumni engagement and outreach designed to acquire and increase contributions to the School and to promote awareness of the School’s mission and educational programs, and deepen the connection with alumni, friends and corporate and foundation partners. The Associate Dean will supervise the School’s development and alumni relations team.

Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Setting fundraising goals for the School with the Dean;
  • Serve as a member of the Dean's senior leadership team and participate in key school-wide initiatives where Development and Alumni Relations is a meaningful partner. Collaborate with other Chief Development Officers on schoolwide priorities.
  • Leading prospect strategy development and oversight of a program to identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual gifts, major gifts, and planned gifts, including proposal and grant writing for individuals, corporate and foundation prospects;
  • Overseeing the Annual Fund and corporate and foundation fundraising efforts;
  • Working closely with the Board of Visitors, alumni, friends, volunteer leaders, and faculty to achieve development and alumni engagement goals; and
  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners throughout OAD and CUIMC, as well as other schools and centers across Columbia, to communicate school priorities, collaborate around key strategies and solicitations, provide data, coordinate external activities.
  • Providing overall leadership, oversight and help with the implementation of programs and activities for alumni and donors.
  • Managing team finances and budget
  • analyzing and utilizing constituent data to inform strategic planning;
  • Serving as the primary source of contact for donors and prospective donors;
  • Guiding the strategy for alumni engagement efforts and activities;

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus seven (7) years of progressive responsibility and experience in development.

The successful incumbent will have the management, organizational and analytical skills necessary to direct, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers in accomplishing fundraising and alumni engagement goals. S/He will have the proven ability to work successfully in a campaign environment and have major gift solicitation experience. The incumbent is expected to have a proven record of major gift fundraising, work collaboratively and independently, and contribute to the overall fundraising and stewardship strategy of the development and alumni relations office. They will be expected to work closely with the Dean, senior staff both at the University and CUIMC, and the faculty in alumni engagement and fundraising. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills are required.

The incumbent is expected to be an individual thinker capable of handling confidential situations involving donors and prospective donors. S/He is expected to work independently while conferring closely with the Dean, lead volunteers, and other School and University stakeholders, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree in business or another relevant graduate degree is preferred, along with several years of related experience in higher education. A healthcare or academic background and familiarity with Columbia University is also highly preferred for this role. Use of Salesforce
