Job Summary
Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School is seeking a full-time, prep school music teacher to teach a combination of instrumental jazz and music history classes on a temporary, leave-replacement basis.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Teaching two sections of Jazz Performance classes, overseeing small combos in learning and practicing jazz standards as an ensemble
- Teaching two sections of Music History, following the existing curriculum
- Teaching two sections of Advanced Music History, following the existing curriculum
- Participating and supporting the Prep School Spring Concert, on Tuesday, April 29 at 6:30pm
- Ensuring music department spaces and equipment are kept clean, orderly, and secure
- Participating in faculty meetings, grade-level meetings and department meetings with music department colleagues
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a music-related field (masters preferred), or significant demonstrated experience as a musician, especially in jazz styles
- Demonstrates the ability to mentor student musicians of all types and ability levels, encouraging independence and musical growth
- Strong personal musicianship skills
- Demonstrates the ability to develop and adapt pedagogy, curriculum, and assessments for students with a range of skill levels and learning styles
- Dynamic, creative, and growth-oriented
- Have excellent collaboration and communication skills
Work Hours
- 7:45 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Friday
- Weekly faculty and department meetings until 4:30 pm
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $71,000- $118,500 annually based on completed degree programs and years of experience. Annual salary will be prorated based upon the time of the leave replacement. We also offer exceptional benefits and a warm and supportive culture.
