Description of Work
The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate youth programs with a focus on athletics. Directors assist management in developing and implementing a strategic plan and setting goals for the department. Responsibilities include drafting teams, selecting coaches, and training officials, scheduling games/practices, directing and implementing various recreation programs, activities, special events, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the County’s Recreational Board. This organized, creative, and approachable director hires, trains and schedules volunteer coaching staff.
- Recreational Director will develop an annual budget and its implementation.
- Recreational Director develops schedules and officials’ schedules for all contests.
- Recreational Director will coordinate support personnel for all athletic contests, including game management, ticket sales, security, and emergency personnel and apparatus.
- Recreational Director oversees the process for background checks and supervision of the athletic coaches.
- Recreational Director ensures that all applicable laws and regulations relating to athletics are applied.
- Creates materials to publicize athletic and sporting events, both in printed and electronic formats, to disseminate information and foster enhanced awareness among students, staff, and the community in recognizing and supporting the recreational athletic programs and attending events.
- Maintains a professional relationship with parents to provide information regarding schedules, postponements or cancellations, sporting event statistics, records, and other relevant information.
- Maintains records and documents as required to ensure proper documentation of the recreational athletic program activities, budgets, events, participation, and related information to comply with county policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Responsible for carrying out all other duties assigned by the Recreational Board and the County.
- Provide monthly reports to the recreational board, county and school district about the status of the recreational programming.
