Position Summary:
Columbia Ability Alliance is seeking a Senior Accountant to oversee and maintain the general ledger accounting system, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations. The Senior Accountant supports the financial operations for 5 non-profit mission services and 3 for-profit subsidiaries. This role is integral to the organization’s financial operations, supporting month-end and year-end close, reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements, and ensuring that all accounting procedures align with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances.
- Oversee payroll
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated monthly financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Maintain and review general ledger accounts for accuracy.
- Manage and reconcile fixed asset schedules.
- Assist with budget preparation and perform monthly budget variance analyses.
- Conduct internal control evaluations to ensure financial accuracy.
- Prepare financial and regulatory reports as required by law, regulatory agencies, or management.
- Participate in audits of company accounts and financial transactions for compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Stay current on federal and state policies, accounting standards, and organizational policies.
- File tax forms and regulatory reports, including sales tax, 1099s, census reports, payroll taxes, and property tax assessments.
- Process wire transfers and maintain state and local business licensing.
- Support leadership with financial insights and reporting as needed.
- Perform bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations
- Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of accounting experience (non-profit experience is a plus).
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial regulations, and internal controls.
- Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and cost control principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to analyze complex financial documents and data.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to prepare and file accurate tax reports.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
