Summary:
Grinds machine parts to print specifications. Operates surface grinders proficiently to obtain required thicknesses. Adhere to print surface requirements on all parts processed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Studies basic prints, sketches, and drawings
- Operates crane safely for moving and picking up material
- Operates grinder machine and reads depth gauges within .005”
- Reads tape measure within .032”
- Performs self-inspections
- Determines alloys by recognizing different types of steel and how they affect grinding
- Follows routed instructions to ensure part is manufactured correctly
- Follows all Safety and Company policies and procedures including PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
- Participates in Continuous Improvement efforts
- Participates in applicable SOP and SWI training
- Other duties as assigned

Knowledge-

- Proficiency in operating surface grinders to meeting thickness specifications and surface finish requirements
- Ability to read depth gauges within .005” and tape measures within .032”
- Basic project and process management skills, including the ability to follow Standard Work Instructions (SWI) and routed instructions
- Basic computer skills for following dispatch lists and using time clock systems
- Basic equipment operation, including hand tools and machine tools, as well as changing grinding stones and maintaining equipment
- Basic understanding of prints, sketches, and drawings
- Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Basic written and oral communication skills for interacting with team members and supervisor
Abilities-
- Ability to operate cranes safely for material handling
- Ability to perform self-inspections and maintain quality control standards
- Ability to provide and maintain personal tools required for the job, such as depth gauges, dial calipers, micrometers, and a calculator
- Foster and work within a team environment
- Actively participates in safety programs and complies with all safety policies
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects at one time
- Maintains a clean and safe work area
- Displays attention to detail and consistently follows Standard Work Instructions (when available) when completing tasks
- Communicates well with peers, supervisor, customers, vendors, and other departments
- Actively participates in 6S and other Continuous Improvement (CI) efforts
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma required
- 1 year experience preferred
Industrial Exposure:
Noise, Vibration, Close Proximity to Moving Parts, Electrical Currents, Dust, Dirt, Solvents, Oils, Cutting Fluids, Welding and Burning Smoke, Flying Debris.
