What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Development/5th grade Awareness Coordinator position at Columbia Middle School?
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and licensed as a CDC or School Counselor by the NC Dept. of Public Instruction or a bachelor’s degree and a clear license in any area of CTE with the ability to obtain the CDC certification by the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
RELATED DEGREES: Any area of CTE or School Counseling.
REPORTS TO: Principal/CTE Director
JOB GOAL: To help students explore and learn skills that will contribute to their educational and social development in the area of Career and Technical Education.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate career development services for middle school students.
- Promote career awareness, exploration, and planning by continuous monitoring and evaluating of career survey data and student career development plan as defined by local and state General Statutes.
- Provide career development, occupational, labor market, non-traditional career, and post-secondary information.
- Keep the TCS CTE web page up-to-date with CTE events and activities.
- Assists students with selection of appropriate academic and CTE courses.
- Coordinate career planning activities in classrooms, groups, or individual sessions.
- Provide and coordinate administration and interpretation of career assessments.
- Provide information on postsecondary education programs and employment opportunities.
- Facilitate work-based learning opportunities, such as job shadowing and mini internships.
- Provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills and micro credentials.
- Promote the integration of career research and work-based learning opportunities into middle school academic courses.
- Promote the use of technology for career planning and research.
- Facilitate business, education, and community partnerships that provide opportunities for students and support CTE.
- Serve as a liaison with the business, industry, education, and military community.
- Publicize partnership resources.
- Participate in professional development activities at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
- Engage in professional growth opportunities to remain current with trends, demands, and emerging careers in a rapidly changing workforce.
- Coordinate with CDC, guidance, CTE teachers, and CTSO’s to promote recruitment, enrollment, and placement activities for prospective and current students in CTE.
- Provide information about CTE opportunities to prospective and current CTE students and their parents.
- Assist with district-wide event planning.
- Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner.
- Interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents and the community.
- Participates in, upon request, lea communities designed to plan for various aspects of the total career and technical education program.
- Adheres to establish laws, policies, rules and regulations.
Terms of Employment: Eleven-month employment
Starting Salary and/or Grade: Salary based on state salary scale
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board, local and state policy on evaluation of teachers.
Salary : $41,000 - $55,950
