Columbia Power & Water Systems (CPWS) is a public utility proudly serving the citizens of Columbia and Maury County Tennessee since 1939. CPWS is recruiting a Customer Records Clerk to process all account maintenance, billing, and accounts receivables activities, ensuring a high level of quality assurance of customer information.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Daily Processes
- Account maintenance changes as needed.
- Complete service orders which will either begin or end service for a customer.
- Complete Broadband specific work orders.
- Complete meter changes in a timely manner.
- Create reading batches to prepare for cycle billing. Review results for high/low/missing issues. Post to accounts when completed.
- Collaborate with the Billing Services department to maintain the integrity of all billing and metering data.
- Perform and understand all billing functions for all CPWS utilities.
- Ensure all receipt batches are posted daily.
- Apply deposits to disconnected accounts and refund balances as needed.
- Maintain an A/R system that is in balance with the financial general ledger system.
- Complete the monthly steps needed to process delinquent accounts.
- Apply billing adjustments and journals as needed to account balances.
- Determine where changes could be made (if any) to CPWS processes that could eliminate billing mistakes.
- Maintain an accurate document management system that relates to utility billing accounts.
- Maintain a mindset of accuracy in all aspects of the Customer Records area.
General
- Receives direction and coordinates work processes with the Customer Records Lead.
- Sort and deliver mail to appropriate personnel and departments.
- Maintain exceptional level of accuracy related to all customer records.
- Update all customer records as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to occasionally lift 0 – 10 pounds
- Ability to sit at a desk for up to 2 hours at a time, up to 8 hours per day
- Ability to use eyes, hands, and fingers to operate computer keyboard quickly and accurately
- Ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2 years of previous customer service experience required
- Experience in the utility industry preferred
Compensation Package:
CPWS offers competitive compensation and benefits. Highlights of the benefits included in this package are healthcare, dental, and life insurance plans with all premiums funded entirely by the employer. CPWS also offers a 401(k)-retirement plan to all eligible employees after one year of service. The plan allows elective deferrals from 4% to 75% of compensation and CPWS contributes 8% of compensation to the plan.
