About Us

Professor Chin Hurs research team at Columbia University Medical Center conducts cutting-edge analyses using simulation models and advanced statistical / machine learning methods to guide clinical care and public health decisions, primarily focusing on the prevention and management of various cancers (e.g., stomach, colorectal, esophageal, pancreatic) and other medical conditions such as obesity.

  • Dr. Hur also serves as a coordinating Principal Investigator and steering committee member for the National Cancer Institutes CISNET Modeling consortium (CISNET website).

Position Overview

We seek a Research Assistant who will support Dr. Hur and his research team in a variety of clinical, epidemiological, and project coordination tasks. This position combines administrative / project management responsibilities with opportunities to contribute to meaningful research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research & Data Analysis :
  • Assist with cost-effectiveness analyses, clinical patient data mining, and development of predictive models.
  • Abstract data from electronic health records, administer surveys / questionnaires, and manage data collection.
  • Contribute to coding, statistics, and / or simulation modeling (if you have relevant skills or interest).
  • Project Coordination :
  • Help coordinate study protocols, timelines, and day-to-day project logistics.
  • Potentially assist with patient recruitment and communication.
  • Organize and manage team meetings (schedule appointments, prepare agendas, take minutes, and follow up on action items).
  • Maintain project-related documentation.
  • Team Collaboration & Communication :
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, statisticians, and researchers.
  • Participate in team meetings, share updates, and help ensure project milestones are met.
  • Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Education : A minimum of a bachelors degree.
  • Commitment : Able to commit to two years in a full-time role (starting Spring 2025).
  • Interest in Research : Eager to explore medical and public health research, with a willingness to learn new analytical methods.
  • Organizational Skills : Exceptional resourcefulness, attention to detail, and ability to take initiative.
  • Teamwork : Comfortable collaborating within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Literature Searches : Capable of performing focused literature reviews to support research objectives.
  • Technical Skills (Preferred but not Required) : Familiarity or experience with programming / statistics (e.g., R, Python) or other analytic tools.
