Overview
An LPN Instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction to students in practical nursing programs, preparing them for their LPN licensure exams. This involves both classroom teaching and clinical supervision. The motivated instructor will ensure that students meet the educational and clinical competencies necessary to practice as licensed practical nurses.
Duties
- Develop and deliver course materials in a variety of formats (lecture, lab, clinical, and online learning, if applicable).
- Instruct students on nursing theory, practical nursing skills, medical terminology, pharmacology, patient care techniques, and nursing ethics.
- Use various teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic).
- Ensure students understand and apply fundamental nursing principles, such as patient assessment, medication administration, and patient safety.
- Supervise and evaluate students in clinical settings, ensuring they demonstrate appropriate patient care and safety.
- Provide hands-on guidance during clinical hours in hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities.
- Ensure students comply with state regulations and nursing standards during clinical placements.
- Contribute to the development, evaluation, and revision of the nursing curriculum to align with industry standards and Ohio state nursing regulations.
- Integrate evidence-based practices into the curriculum to enhance student learning and competency.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress through written exams, practical assessments, and clinical evaluations.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their skills and knowledge.
- Offer academic and career counseling, supporting students through challenges.
- Ensure that the nursing program complies with Ohio Board of Nursing regulations and accreditation standards.
- Stay updated on current evidenced-based practice and technologies to incorporate into teaching.
- Maintain professional development by attending workshops, conferences, or continuing education programs.
- Keep accurate records of student attendance, grades, and clinical evaluations.
- Collaborate with other faculty members, nursing administrators, and healthcare professionals to ensure program quality.
- Attend faculty meetings and contribute to program planning and decision-making.
Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) is required; a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher is preferred.
- Current, valid license as a registered nurse in Ohio is required
- A valid teaching certification is required
- Experience for at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse is required.
- Experience teaching in a nursing or healthcare-related field is preferred
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to explain complex nursing concepts in an understandable way.
- Organizational skills for managing course materials, student records, and clinical assignments.
- A passion for teaching and helping students succeed.
Working Conditions:
- Typically, the instructor will work in a classroom setting for theory instruction, as well as in clinical settings for hands-on training.
- Some evening or weekend hours may be required, depending on the program schedule.
