Entry Level Adult Felony Probation Officer (Columbiana County, Ohio)
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for supervising a probation caseload and/or conducting pre-sentence investigations, evaluations and background checks according to state/federal laws, and county policy. Officer will have regular contact with probationers in the courts, in the office, at their place of employment and in their homes. When needed, Officer will also engage with numerous other social service agencies, law enforcement agencies and government officials. This position must have the ability to coordinate, implement, and evaluate operations and services in community corrections and have excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Must be able to execute many tasks simultaneously and function independently while at the same time, work as part of a team to meet organizational goals.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in criminal justice, social work/service, or the behavioral sciences is required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises felony and misdemeanant probationers ensuring their compliance with court mandates by reviewing court conditions, meeting with probationer face to face or via telephone both in department offices, in the probationers home or in the field. Conduct Presentence Investigation interviews, evaluations and background checks; prepare detailed documents based on these actions to provide the courts for appropriate sentencing. Successfully qualify via OPATA criteria, to carry a handgun as required. Collect restitution and probation fees. Interact professionally with other courts, jails, law enforcement agencies and probation departments when investigating possible violation related activities and/or transferring supervision between counties/states. Review multiple reports as required and/or necessary to ensure probationers are being compliant with court orders and terms and conditions of probation. Prepares and/or collects data for probable cause and revocation hearings. Will be required to attend and participate in violation of probation hearings concerning cases supervised. Update case management system with compliance information, progress and related information. Prepares violations reports and bench warrant requests. Conducts drug/alcohol tests as needed or assigned. May be required to install house arrest/electronic monitoring equipment on probationers. Complete all required training requirements in a timely manner. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
