POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Teacher of Vision Instructor (TVI)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides individualized instruction to students with vision impairments, including blindness and low vision, across various grade levels, focusing on developing academic skills, daily living skills, and utilizing assistive technology while collaborating with other educators and families to support the student's needs within the Colorado academic standards; this role typically includes conducting vision assessments, creating individualized education plans (IEPs).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct Instruction:
Deliver specialized lessons tailored to each student's visual needs, including academic content, orientation and mobility skills, visual efficiency training, and adaptive technology use. - Assessment and Evaluation:
Conduct comprehensive vision assessments to determine individual needs, monitor student progress, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly. - IEP Development:
Collaborate with other educational professionals to create and implement individualized education plans for students with vision impairments. - Assistive Technology Expertise:
Teach students how to utilize assistive technologies like screen readers, magnifiers, Braille devices, and specialized software to access curriculum. - Collaboration with Teachers and Staff:
Provide support and training to general education teachers on how to effectively integrate students with visual impairments into their classrooms. - Family Engagement:
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to discuss student progress, provide support, and involve them in the educational planning process.
Salary : $50,000 - $66,200
