What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - CSI Coordinator position at Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks?
Provides coordination of the Metro Parks Columbus City Schools Intern Initiative, assistance to the Manager of Park Operations and the Human Resources Department, as well as assistance to the Park Staff while allowing students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program or within two quarters/semesters of graduation the opportunity to gain professional experience through on-the-job training as part of their educational experience.
Responsible for the daily transportation of interns from designated high school pick-up and drop-off locations.
Coordinate maintenance group projects at individual parks.
Complete performance evaluations, assist with coaching and discipline, as well as serving as a mentor to the high school interns.
Completes routine forms and tracks attendance for CSI Team.
On some days will serve as a college intern under the Manger of Park operations and Human Resources Department.
May be involved in research and implementation regarding; budgeting, park policy, personnel issues, new park development, operational plans, strategic goals, event planning (e.g. Red, White and Boom) and park law enforcement.
Performs a variety of landscaping and golf course maintenance duties including, but not limited to mowing, fertilizing, trimming, mulching, invasive species removal, resource management, etc,.
Performs basic trail maintenance including clearing paths, trimming, and pruning.
Operates basic maintenance equipment including but not limited to trucks, mowers, tractors, off-road vehicles, line trimmers, blowers, etc.
Equipment repair and maintenance.
Plant, fertilize, prune, water and transplant trees.
Paints and stains and assists in the basic repair of buildings, signs, tables, roadways, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Attendance: Being present at work is an essential function of the position.
Language Skills: Excellent presentation and verbal and written communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively through speech and writing; ability to prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports; ability to use two-way radio. Ability to complete routine forms.
Work Hours: Schedule is based solely on operational need but typically will be 40 - 45 hours per week for the defined season (May to September). Hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Any Additional Information: Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships within work unit, with associates, other professionals, and the general public. Knowledge of natural resources and park and recreation, landscaping, building maintenance, budgeting, public relations, safety practices and procedures.. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Candidate must satisfactorily complete a background investigation.
