What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Park Technician position at Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks?
Performs a wide range of general maintenance, repair, and construction activities in parks and/or golf course. Team-Oriented: Works on a team. Outstanding customer service, communications and interpersonal skills.
Licenses, Registrations: Possession of a valid Ohio driver license; may be required to obtain a valid Ohio commercial driver's license of the appropriate class and with the appropriate endorsement(s), insurable by the Park District's insurance carrier, and ability to conform to the driving standards policy as approved by the Board of Park Commissioners. May be required to obtain a pesticide applicator's license.
May perform a variety of landscaping and golf course maintenance duties such as mowing, fertilizing, hedge trimming, etc.
Performs basic painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrical work.
Performs equipment maintenance based on assignment including vehicles, mowers, tractors, grounds maintenance equipment, golf carts, etc.
Performs manual labor, duties related to construction, and development of park projects as assigned.
Cleans Park District facilities and vehicles; performs other custodial work including trash and litter pick up.
Operates equipment including but not limited to trucks, mowers, tractors, power tools and chainsaws.
May operate heavy motorized construction equipment including but not limited to bulldozer, grader, loader, trencher, backhoe.
May train and oversee work of interns and volunteers.
May plant, fertilize, prune, and transplant trees.
May assist in the repair of buildings, signs, tables, etc.
Assists in construction of bridges, fences, trails, etc.
Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.

Education/Experience: Completion of secondary education (high school or GED) plus one year semi-skilled maintenance and repair experience, or one year's experience in construction trades and/or operating heavy construction equipment or the equivalent. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures, basic building and grounds maintenance methods, principles of construction, equipment operation and construction trades.
Attendance: Being present at work is an essential function of the position.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with coworkers and general public on a daily basis.
Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematics skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to carry out instructions and deal with problems involving few variables within a familiar context. Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision. Ability to read and understand manuals.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk and hear, operate grounds maintenance and heavy equipment, lift heavy objects, operate power and hand tools, drive park vehicles, off-road vehicles, and golf carts, etc. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, etc. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Work Environment: While performing the regular duties of the job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee spends a portion of their time working in the shop. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Any Additional Information: May be required to read and interpret blueprints and sketches in connection with grading or digging and utility installation and repair; diagnose mechanical failure of equipment. Ability and willingness to cooperate with coworkers on group projects. Ability to complete routine forms.
