What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aspire Lead Instructor position at Columbus City Schools?
The Aspire Lead Instructor will provide a quality program of educational services for Aspire students. The Lead Instructor will develop and implement a comprehensive instructional program for all Aspire students in the most effective and efficient manner. The instructor will hold a Bachelor’s degree, a valid Ohio teaching license, certificate, or permit as required by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). The instructor will possess an acceptable knowledge of the following: computer technology, strong instructional, organizational and human relations skills, ability to work independently, manage and complete projects, coordinate staff, and interact with students, staff, and community organizations in a positive and productive manner.
Qualifiers/Selection Criteria:
- Must have experience working with diverse populations in a variety of settings;
- Must be available to work during times when adults need services including evenings;
- Must have five years of successful experience teaching Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Secondary Education (ASE), and English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in an ABLE/Aspire program;
- Must have expertise in all facets of Aspire instruction, Adult Learning Theory, and Learning Disabilities/Difficulties/Differences;
- Must have knowledge and experience in computer technology as it relates to Instructional Learning Systems;
- Must have experience with test administration and test certification where needed including Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE), General Educational Development (GED), Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC), and High School Equivalency Test (HiSET);
- Must have experience with PowerPath or other Learning Disability (LD) evaluation screenings;
- Must have experience in development of and utilization of databases/spreadsheets to retrieve and enter information;
- Must have experience with the ABE/ASE/ESOL Orientation and Intake Process;
- Successful experience in working with school staff and agency personnel to meet the needs of adults and their families;
- Experience in collaborating with community agencies;
- Ability to prepare reports and grant applications for funding agencies;
- Expert communication and writing skills.
Specifically, the Lead Instructor shall:
- Assist the Adult and Community Education (ACE) administrator in training and monitoring instructional staff;
- Assist the ACE administrator in planning, implementing, and facilitating staff development and professional learning activities;
- Assist in curriculum planning and development, and the selection and utilization of instructional materials;
- Serve as a liaison with community facilities and civic organizations;
- Coordinate program promotion and student recruitment/Aspire Orientations;
- Support, assist, and provide guidance to teachers, volunteers, and support staff;
- Establish cooperative working relationships;
- Revise and distribute information about program policies and procedures;
- Coordinate classroom placements, transfers, and scheduling issues;
- Develop and coordinate all student activities in Distance Education (DE);
- Provide classroom or individual instruction based on student needs (diagnostic testing and learning screenings) and student goals;
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the administrator of Adult and Community Education.
