TITLE: Director Total Rewards
JOB STATUS: FLSA Exempt
REPORTS TO: Executive Director Human Resources
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
STARTING SALARY: $119,709
POSITION STATEMENT: The position provides strategic direction and oversees the execution of all plans and activities for the district’s employee benefits, compensation, leaves of absence, Workers' Compensation, performance management, and related programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.
- Strategic Oversight: Directs and oversees the district’s employee benefits, compensation, Workers' Compensation, leaves of absence, performance management, and related programs, ensuring compliance with labor contracts, legal requirements, district policies and best practices.
- Team Leadership: Manages daily activities of staff within Employee Benefits, Compensation, Leaves of Absence, Performance Management, and Workers’ Compensation. The responsibilities include hiring, training, counseling, evaluating staff performance, and addressing discipline and/or termination, as necessary. Provides leadership in organizational effectiveness, management, and performance development.
- Benefits and Compensation Strategy: Develops long-range objectives for the district's benefits and compensation plans, including monitoring administrative costs and recommending cost containment strategies. Leads initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the district’s total rewards offers.
- Contract and Service Competitiveness: Works directly with benefits consultant and procurement team to manage the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for benefit and compensation providers to ensure competitive service contracts and manage vendor performance and relationships. Oversees renewal and termination of teacher and administration contracts.
- Policy and Procedure Consultation: Provides consultation to district staff regarding human resources policies and procedures, addressing staffing issues, and ensuring that employee records are maintained in compliance with applicable laws and confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA.
- Budget Management: Administers departmental budgets, ensuring that expenditure aligns with approved budget guidelines.
- Professional Development: Oversees the development of staff within the department, ensuring continuous professional growth and maintenance of necessary certifications and credentials.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyzes data, tracks metrics, and prepares reports for senior leadership. Uses data to evaluate the effectiveness of total rewards programs and ensure the district meets its goals.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree or SHRM certification is preferred.
· Experience: Experience: Seven (7) years of human resources experience, including at least five (5) years of experience overseeing and managing complex compensation and benefits programs, and at least five (5) years of supervisory/managerial experience. A viable combination of education and experience may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Expertise: Strong knowledge of federal and state laws related to employee benefits, compensation, leaves of absence, Workers' Compensation, performance management, and related human resource functions.
· Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
· Project Management: Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
· Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to resolve issues collaboratively, tactfully, and respectfully.
· Data Analysis: Strong ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and effectively present findings to senior leadership and other stakeholders within the organization.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Tools/Equipment Use: Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair.
· Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
· Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching
· Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds)
· Environment: Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours.
· Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
· Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
