TITLE: Student Support Specialist - Reading
JOB STATUS: Part-Time Hourly (20-25 hours per week)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
DEPARTMENT: Ridgeview Middle School
POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Support Specialist in the area of reading is responsible for developing and providing academic instruction, promoting the academic achievement of students, assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of student intervention plans, recording student progress, communicating with classroom teachers, parents and families, and supporting school improvement efforts at Ridgeview Middle School. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to establish and implement quality instruction, manage students in an academic setting, and communicate effectively with others in speech and writing.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Develop a collaborative working relationship with students, staff, and parents.
- Administer various assessments, evaluate, and maintain accurate records of student performance and progress towards learning standards.
- Deliver small group instruction and/or team-teach with cooperating teachers utilizing strategies within the instructional framework.
- Provide appropriate grade-level instruction to students needing intervention and/or learning supports.
- Maintain instructional plans that show evidence of addressing student learning needs.
- Intervene a minimum of 4-5 hours daily working with identified students.
- Participate in ongoing dialogue with staff to analyze data and plan for focused instruction.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Ohio teaching certification/licensure
- K-12 Reading Endorsement
- Knowledge of school improvement and Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies
- Deep knowledge of Common Core Standards
- Evidence of strong remediation instructional skills in reading
- Ability to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful manner
- Written and computer skills necessary for maintaining records, documents, progress monitoring reports, and online assessments
