This position is responsible for assisting in overseeing the operation of the Solid Waste and Recycling Division.
- Assists the Solid Waste and Recycling Manager in planning, directing, and coordinating the daily operations of the division.
- Assists in responding to and resolving complaints and grievances.
- Prepares reports; conducts studies detailing the types and methods of solid waste and recycling collection and the probability of implementation.
- Prepares monthly and weekly reports as required.
- Oversees the tree-for-fee program.
- Schedules training for the division.
- Directs special programs and projects for the Solid Waste and Recycling Manager.
- Assists the Waste Collection/Recycling Supervisor in the analysis and restructuring of solid waste and recycling routes.
- Confers with division manager and upper management to keep informed on key issues and progress toward objectives and to gain their support and approval; makes recommendations to assist management in making needed improvements.
- Oversees the route supervisors to ensure timely collections and assist them when behind.
- Maintains budgetary prudence and monitors budgetary line item variances.
- Assists the manager in preparing the annual budget, forecasting needs, and preparing equipment specifications.
- Serves on various esprit de corps committees to boost morale, as well as Request for Proposal panels to approve purchases for various divisions and Household Hazardous Waste Day.
- Maintains working relationships with Columbus Water Works to Maintain proper billing of customers.
- Assists in managing the expendable supplies. Writing, reviewing and implementing policies for the division.
- Participates in the hiring and firing of employees. Ensure Contractors are completing assigned duties.
- Enters and closes work orders into the QAlert system.
- Educates the citizens about waste diversion and recycling.
- Attends counsel meeting and speak about matters concerning the Waste and Recycling Collection Division.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of sanitation ordinances governing the collection of solid waste and recycling and solid waste management.
- Knowledge of the methods, principles, and practices of writing and editing.
- Skill in the operation of a computer and various software programs.
