This position is responsible for supervising a crew in the maintenance of trees on city property.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates employees.
- Inspects and maintains vehicle and equipment.
- Trains personnel in the operation of a bucket truck, chipper, and a chipper truck.
- Prunes and removes trees; operates a chipper.
- Trains and supervises personnel in the use of safety procedures and the procedures for trimming and removing trees.
- Flags traffic; brings vehicles and pedestrians through the work site safely.
- Responds to citizen questions.
- Prepares work orders and daily worksheets; reviews work orders daily to ensure completion.
- Evaluates incident and accident reports.
- Responds to emergency situations as needed and may be subject to on call hours.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of training and supervisory techniques.
- Knowledge of the roads and area of the Columbus Consolidated Government.
- Knowledge of the techniques of tree pruning and removal.
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
- Skill in the operation of light and heavy equipment including chippers, saws, blowers, bucket trucks, flatbeds, and dump trucks.
