Columbus House opened its doors in 1982 to provide services for men and women at least 18 years of age. Our goals quickly broadened from the mere provision of food and shelter and simple survival, to understanding and working toward overcoming the problems which cause people to become homeless.

Purpose
Under the direction of the Director of Middlesex & Veteran Services, the Representative Payee manages the finances of clients who are unable to do so in their own best interests due to disability or other life circumstances. The Representative Payee also serves as liaison to the Social Security Administration, the Veterans Administration and other financial institutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Columbus House case managers and Veterans Administration staff as they refer clients who need assistance with managing their finances
- Provide guidance with established monthly budgets, provide timely payments and maintain the representative payee software and associated charts
- Work closely with the local Social Security Office and the Veterans Administration on specific cases
- Attend regularly scheduled supervision, team, shelter or staff meetings as requested
- Complete SSA and VA reports as requested and in a timely manner
- Attend weekly and monthly agency, program and network meetings
- Attend all required network meetings
- Monitor all cases assigned and complete all documentation/charting required
- collaborate with other case managers and work to promote the Representative Payee program city-wide
- Maintain strict confidentiality concerning both program applicants and accepted clients while carrying out all duties
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Familiarity with Social Security and Veterans Administration processes
- Extremely detail-oriented, punctual, financially literate and possessed superior interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a deadline-oriented mindset
- Strong written and oral communication skills employing the English language
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other common desktop applications
- Able to work with diverse populations
- Possessed of a strong desire to promote equal access and opportunity for homeless individuals and those with disabilities
- Familiar with mental health, substance abuse and dual diagnosis issues and dynamics
- Ability to collaborate successfully with others
- Able to meet all documentation requirements
- Must be able to multitask
- Valid drivers’ license with a good driving history and access to reliable transportation
Schedule: Tuesday- Friday 9am-5pm
