Job Summary
The Deli Department Manager-In-Training assists the Deli Department Manager with overseeing daily operations in the Deli Department. Duties primarily revolve around assisting the general management of the department employees, which include, but are not limited to, providing, and demonstrating task instructions, keeping attendance, and measuring key performance indicators. You will be expected to assist the Manager with keeping records and producing reports that will be used to review team performance.
The Deli Department Manager-In-Training needs to have excellent communication skills and a passion for excellence. Previous leadership experience is a plus.
Essential Job Functions
Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible for assisting the Manager with the daily activities of employees to improve sales performance.
- Assisting employees in various duties such as cooking, packaging, and operating counters.
- Assists the Manager with ordering, receiving, display and sale of products in accordance with company quality and merchandising standards.
- Assist the Manager with controlling department expenses by enhancing operations, meeting budget goals and controlling shrinkage and pilferage.
- Responsible for assisting the Manager with semi-annual inventory counts.
- Manage product storage, maintenance, and rotation activities to avoid any damage or spoilage.
- Assist in preparation of inventory and sales budgets.
- Responsible for checking in vendors when needed.
- Schedule and assign work duties for employees daily when Manager is unavailable.
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training new staff, when Manager is unavailable.
- Assist the Manager with training staff on company policies, safety & equipment procedures, and sales guidelines.
- Assist the Manager with department records on employees and may assist in evaluating employee performance.
- Respond to inquiries and complaints from both customers and employees.
- Assist the Manager to ensure employees follow company policies and store rules.
- Assist the Manager to coordinate with employees to operate the Deli to achieve sales goals.
- Coordinate with Department Manager and/or Store Director to develop sales promotion programs to attract more customers.
- Ensure that products are properly labeled with prices and dates.
- Monitor and maintain stock inventory levels to avoid over and under stock problems.
- Interact politely with clients while solving problems related to sales, dissatisfied service, and issues regarding store operation.
- Operate all food preparation machines and equipment.
- Receive, unload and stock food items.
- Ensure the Deli is maintained neat, clean, and safe.
- Ensure great customer service at all levels.
- Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the business/department/organization.
Qualifications and Skills
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
- ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
