- This individual supervises the technical and operational functions of a diagnostic laboratory section. They must be able to perform routine and specialized laboratory tests when necessary based on workload and staffing needs.
- This individual requires extensive knowledge of all technical procedures performed in their area of responsibility and serves as the resource person for other professionals or patients inquiring about lab tests within their scope of responsibility.
- This individual must exercise independent judgment about technical and operational functions within their laboratory section; requires minimal direct supervision; responsible for all quality initiatives for their laboratory section; demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills; works well with a diverse group of individuals, possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and exhibits ethical behavior and continued professional development.
- This individual is responsible for meeting all regulatory requirements for their areas of responsibility. The position's primary customers are the patients, laboratory staff, nursing staff, physicians, other non-nursing hospital departments, contract accounts, physician's office staff, and other lab departments. Suppliers include nursing departments, physicians, pathologists, physician offices and lab personnel.
- The Technical Specialist position has a base hourly rate of $28.16, annualized to $58,572 and is commensurate with experience.
- This position will require you to work 40 hours a week, 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
What is required for this position:
- Associate’s degree and at least two years of experience; or a Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience required.
- Medical Technologist Certification (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist Certification (MLS), or Medical Laboratory Technician Certification (MLT) from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.
- Regularly required to stand, walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
- Must have excellent eye-hand coordination.
- Must be able to distinguish colors because of color detection is part of some testing procedures.
