Job Summary
Purpose of Position :
Advising Central Peer Advisors are energetic student employees that assist students with their academic advising needs. Advising Central is a space where students can drop-in or make appointments to meet with academic advisors and Columbus Promise advisors.
These student employees assist in the day-to-day operations of the center, including greeting all students, faculty, staff and visitors, plus additional responsibilities assisting in the creation and maintaining of social media sites, event planning, and mentoring other students.
This position is only open to students with Federal Work Study eligibility.
Duties and Responsibilities :

- Mentors and supports students interested in learning more about college resources.
- Assists with managing the Advising Central Social Media page; posting events happening in the center, posting events happening around campus, capturing photos of birthdays and celebrations of staff and students, etc.
- Assist with presentations for All Advisor Meetings, preparing materials, room set-up, etc.
- Assist with events; FWS Job Fair, Major Fest, Advising & Registration Blitz, etc.
- Assists with providing training to new Advising Central student employees.
- Represents Advising Central at the front desk with a positive and helpful attitude.
- Provides front-line customer service face-to-face or on the phone to students, parents, faculty / staff, and members of the community.
- Assists department staff with general office duties and clerical / administrative work including but not limited to : filing, delivering messages, returning phone calls, sort and deliver mail, make copies, etc.
- Assembles materials, documents, etc. as related to the department and its processes and procedures.
Assists with departmental projects and programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge of : Applicant needs to have a general knowledge of the college platforms used and campus buildings. Vast knowledge in all social media platforms. General knowledge of campus resources and be able to assist students in the process.
Skill in : Blackboard, Starfish, Microsoft Office Programs, and Customer Service. Social Media Platforms.
Ability to : Greet all visitors that enter the center. Communicate with students, staff, and faculty face to face in a busy environment. Direct students to other departments across the campus. Assist with event planning and coordination. Assist the supervisor and Program Coordinator with maintaining Advising Central social media sites. Work independently under limited supervision after initial training.
Minimum / General Qualifications :
This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Any applicants without Federal Work Study eligibility will not be considered for this position.
Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.
Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.
Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.
Schedule :
TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between office hours of Monday - Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
Maximum 20 hours per week.
Work will be performed : On-site only.

The program consists of paid competency-based career and leadership development activities designed by Career Services. All Tier / Level III positions are automatically enrolled in this program.
