Job Summary
We are seeking dynamic and highly skilled individuals with dual expertise as Success Coaches (ICF-certified) and Academic Advisors. This hybrid role is designed to provide both professional coaching and holistic academic advising to students, ensuring personal, academic, and career success. The ideal candidates will leverage coaching methodologies to enhance student development and offer tailored academic advice to help students thrive academically and professionally. This role reports to the Director of Advising.
Responsibilities
Significant Duties & Responsibilities include : Success Coaching (50%) : Provide 1 : 1 and group coaching sessions to students using an ICF-approved coaching framework to support their leadership development, personal growth, and academic and career progression., Help students clarify goals, overcome challenges, and create actionable plans to achieve academic, professional, and personal objectives., Utilize coaching techniques, such as active listening, powerful questioning, and goal setting, to foster self-awareness, stability, and accountability in students and emerging professionals., Facilitate workshops on topics like leadership development, career planning, emotional intelligence, and personal effectiveness., Assist students in aligning academic pursuits with long-term career goals, helping them build a roadmap for success post-graduation., Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all coaching relationships in accordance with ICF ethical standards.; Academic Advising (50%) : Advise students on academic requirements, course selections, and degree plans to ensure timely progression towards graduation and alignment with career goals., Co-construct personalized pathways to academic and career goals, with students taking increasing responsibility along the path.; Offer personalized guidance in relation to majors, minors, internships, and co-curricular activities to optimize the student experience and maximize academic potential., Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to provide integrated support for students, identifying any challenges they face and helping them navigate potential obstacles., Monitor student performance metrics (GPA, retention, progression) and provide proactive support to help students succeed academically., Partner with campus services such as career services, counseling, and tutoring centers to refer students as needed., Assist students in developing academic skills, such as time management, study strategies, and stress management, to improve their overall performance.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications include : International Coaching Federation (ICF) Certification (Associate Certified Coach, Professional Certified Coach, or Master Certified Coach required) or willingness and ability to complete the certification process within 2 years of start date.; 4-Year commitment is required if CSU assists in funding ICF credentialing. If there is a separation before the 4-year commitment is complete, reimbursement of costs of certification will be required.; Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. Direct experience in academic coaching or academic advising can be considered in lieu of a master's degree.; At least 2 years of coaching and / or academic advising experience, preferably in a higher education setting.; Deep understanding of academic policies and procedures, as well as student development theories.; Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse students.; Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.; Commitment to the ethical guidelines and professional standards of both coaching and academic advising.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications include : Familiarity with Design Thinking or other career development frameworks (e.g., Designing Your Life).; Background in delivering career development workshops and leadership training.; Knowledge of higher education technologies such as student information systems, degree audit systems, advising software, or learning management systems (LMS).
Proposed Salary
The proposed annualized salary for this position is $60,000 and includes full benefits.
