Job Summary
The Student Accounts Specialist reports directly to the Bursar. This is a customer-focused position providing service to students and their families, staff, faculty, and other members of the community while complying with established accounting policies and procedures. The Student Accounts Office provides for the accurate billing and timely collection of student tuition and fees, inclusive of third-party sponsors as well as collection, deposit, and subsequent recording of all student account deposits for the university. The Student Accounts Specialist assists the Director of Student Accounts with management of financial compliance with policies, regulations, and laws from Federal, State, Board of Regents, the University, and private sponsors.
Responsibilities
Significant Duties and Responsibilities include: Provides customer services using various means of communication.; Conducts data entry and maintains Letters of Authorization of Student Sponsors.; Ensures all third-party payments are processed in a timely manner.; Third Party Billing - Ensures tuition and fees are assessed correctly and reflected accurately on third party student accounts in Banner, Processes all invoices and sends to third party vendors in accordance with signed agreements, Ensures billing for third party students is accurate and occurs in a timely manner.; Collections - Ensures due diligence of student accounts by conducting invoicing at 30, 60, 90, and 120 day intervals, Assigns students to an external collections agency if accounts are not paid timely, Transfers housing account balances to private vendor when deemed uncollectable, Assists in requesting approval to write off accounts when deemed uncollectable.; Coordinate the timely processing of refunds due to students as a result of financial aid and/or overpayments made to student accounts.; Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications include: Associate degree in an accounting related field and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications include: Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner and PeopleSoft.
Proposed Salary
The annualized salary range for this position is $40,253 - $43,784 and includes full benefits.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: Knowledge of Accounting principles; cashiering; banking; bookkeeping processes and procedures.; Ability to use standard office equipment, such as fax, copier, calculator and desktop computer.; Working knowledge of Microsoft products, including Excel and Word.; Organizational skills.

Conditions of Employment
