Job Summary
Student lab assistants will assist the stockroom manager and professors in the successful completion of laboratory exercises in Survey of Chemistry and Principles of Chemistry labs.
Responsibilities
The student lab assistant is responsible for attending all assigned lab sessions in order to assist the instructor and enrolled students. Duties of the attending student assistants include ensuring the classroom is prepped for the weekly experiment, assisting enrolled students in laboratory technique, calculations, and overall understanding of learning objectives, and maintaining a safe, clean, stocked laboratory environment. Sanitizing common areas such as balances and fume hoods between group meetings may similarly be expected. Assistants may also aid enrolled students in lab report submission through Chem21Labs or CougarView.
Student lab assistants may also have an opportunity to assist the chemical stockroom manager in a number of tasks throughout the week. These tasks include but are not limited to weekly prepping of solutions and materials for Survey of Chemistry and Principles of Chemistry labs, weekly cleaning of instructional labs, maintaining distilled water carboys in instructional labs, and various departmental special projects relating to teaching and regulatory affairs. Assistants will be trained on all practices by the stockroom manager..
Required Qualifications
Must be current Chemistry major having completed at least CHEM 1212 Principles of Chemistry 2.
Proposed Salary
$11.00/hr. This position can work up to 19 hours per week.

- Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.
