Qualifications
Able to carry out oral and written directions.
Able to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
Able to perform physical work for extended periods of time.
Able to balance multiple assignments successfully.
Skills in locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment required.
Some knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials hazards, and safety precautions of the electrical trade, including knowledge of the National Electrical Codes preferred.
Responsibilities
Installs and makes repairs and adjustments to such things as electrical controls, wiring, switches, simple appliances, and wall outlets.
Makes minor repairs and adjustments to such things as electric motors, generators and similar equipment.
Performs preventative maintenance tasks such as cleans, oils and maintains motors, brushes, bearings and switches.
Interprets National Electric Code.
Installs and makes minor repairs to equipment such as air conditioners, motors, appliances, heating equipment and transformers.
If applicable, monitors and distributes chemical supply products and follows standardized usage guidelines and safety information as set by the Material Data Sheets to Facilities.
Assures safety of self, staff, animals and guests through regular participation in safety training and activities; compliance with standard operating procedures; and proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
Assures safety of visitors by blocking off hazardous areas.
Provides support and assistance to any and all activities related to special events such as Wildlights and Zoofari.
Assists other facilities staff when required.
Participates in cross-training as directed.
Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.
Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Meet goals as outlined within the work-based learning program with the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks and Columbus City Schools.
All duties will be under the supervision of a full-time staff member / manager.
